Guinea Pigs only like the green hay

PiggieCatMom

This timothy hay comes with both green and brown hay. My guinea pigs LOVE the soft, green hay but leave the brown hay. I wish I could get only the green hay so half of it doesn't go to waste.

Yes, I recommend this product.

My guinea pigs and I absolutely love it. Only brand my guinea pigs will eat now since having it, they do make it in a 5lb box and I would be very excited if you would start carrying it.

I have tried many different types of hay most of which my guinea pig picked at. This particular one he just loves and will eat before his other food.

This hay is soft and quite green and mostly leaves, not dry pale stems like the Kaytee hay which my guinea pigs won't eat.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Piggy Favorite

Our guinea pigs love this brand of Timothy hay. It's more like cut grass than straw and they can't get enough. At breakfast time, they go for the hay before they eat their lettuce and carrots. Then they want more throughout the day. I definitely recommend this product, but leave some for us :)

Yes, I recommend this product.

Best hay Petco carries. Wish my local one had it in store so I don't always have to order online. Worlds better than Kaytee. No stems. Always green and has a very fresh hay smell. Piggies love it. They know the bag and wheek for it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Best Grass Hay Ever

I use timothy hay for a unique purpose -- raising baby chicks. I raise Red Dorking chicks using a broody hen, so the hen needs to set on the eggs for 3 weeks, then continues to use the nest for another 3-4 weeks until the chicks can roost with her. So that's a long time on the nest. I had originally tried straw, as that's what you see in all the pictures, but the straw got pushed to the side of the box too easily and soon the eggs were on the bottom of the box with no padding. I read online that a very experienced hatcher used 2" of shavings covered with 2" of "soft hay, like they use to feed pet rodents and rabbits." Well, that's not very specific, but it was a place to start. I really needed to set up a nest on a day that I couldn't leave the farm, so I asked my husband to stop by Petco on his way home from work. He came home with a little bag of Timothy Gold hay. He said there were numerous options for hay, but "all the other ones were too stemmy, and this is the only one that I though was soft enough for baby chicks." Ahh, what a sweety -- but at $6.99 I thought he was crazy. That's what I'm used to paying for a full sized bale of hay, not a little bag. But I couldn't ask him to take it back after he so carefully selected it, and I really needed it right then, so I opened the bag. I was immediately impressed. The smell was so fresh, like fresh cut grass in the sun. I reached my hand in the bag and pulled out the softest grass I've ever touched. I hesitate to call this hay. This is not like any other product I've ever handled. This is soft silky grass that just happens to be dry, but didn't toughen up when it dried. There wasn't a single stem in my entire bag. And it was surprisingly compacted. That tiny bag actually provided 2" of padding for 3 huge nests, with some left over for touchups later, so that's less than $2.50 per nest. The hens loved it -- they were quite comfortable, it didn't shift around like straw does so the eggs were well padded, the product retained heat well so I got an excellent hatch rate, it was so fresh that the hens ate some of it when they were bored, and it clumped up around any droppings in the nest so it was really easy to keep clean. I know this isn't what the product was intended for, but I would highly recommend it for anyone naturally brooding chicks. Yes, it is more expensive than the other brands on the shelf, but it's worth it. This is the only brand I'll ever use in the future.

Yes, I recommend this product.
