Don't waist your money

I've been using this produce in conjunction with Primafix for the past 3 weeks. The mouth fungus on my fish have gotten worse. Not better. Both remedies are just tea oils. Just wasted my money for nothing. For that cost I could replaced the infected fish with new ones.

No, I do not recommend this product.

My super large Cardinal Tetras started getting fuzzy spots all over their bodies when our California temperatures soared for days on end in August. I don't have a super air conditioned house, so we were all suffering. I ordered Pimafix and Melafix from Drs. Foster Smith and it arrived quickly. I treated my tank with both magic potions simultaneously and my Tetras have all lost their fuzz and survived their adverse circumstance. Would totally recommend.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I bought this to have on hand in case of infection. I've used it before and it worked wonders. I trust API products. Bonus. .....it's way cheaper here for the 16oz size compared to our big box store for a much smaller size.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Melafix has come to the rescue many times for my fish. I've had fish with wounds that ulcerated from fighting, torn fins, or damage from fish that crash into things when startled (silver dollars and bala sharks). I've used it on both tropical fish and goldfish. Whether it's a little scrape or a big gaping wound it takes care of it. There were many times I thought a fish would end up with an ugly scar but the Melafix helped it heal perfectly. I think it's a great product.

Yes, I recommend this product.

fin rot

  1. Thank you for your question. The API MELAFIX provides a safe and all-natural way to treat bacterial infections, open red sores, fin and tail rot, open body wounds, eye cloud, pop eye, body slime & mouth fungus. Infected fish can be bathed in a salt solution (make sure your species of fish can tolerate this) or given topical treatment of the affected area with Gentian Violet. Treatment tanks with appropriate antibiotics are sometimes also used. Correcting water problems and removing fighting fish are also necessary to prevent reoccurrence.
