Long lasting and durable

I have 2 of the model 50's on each end of my 75 gallon cichlid tank pointing at each other with the quick filters on. They keep the water crystal clear and keep the water circulated. I love these things and I'll buy them again when they get old and break down. Buy these and you won't regret it I promise!!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Let me count the ways ... 1. It has advertising on the side. Looks like a jersey for a soccer club. 2. Instructions are too small. There are instructions crammed onto a sheet of paper in 4 different languages. I had t use a magnifying glass to read them. 3. The flow rate is poor, advertises at hundreds of gallons an hour but it barely makes the water move. I've fiddled with the movable handles and there has never been good flow. 4. No directional options. I mean it's a powerhead, why so difficult?

No, I do not recommend this product.

This AquaClear Powerhead Model 30

I wanted to try a different brand after 20+ years of using the same brand, as I was getting tired of the run around with Warranty issues from other brand. This AquaClear 30 was my simple solution to my problem, and I don't regret leaving the other brand behind at all. I use this AquaClear 30 in a 45gal High, that now houses a breading pair of Ocean Green Discus. The photo I added was when I first started up the tank 2 months ago, at that time it housed 4 Comets to get the tank rolling.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good product; lousy instructions

I purchased this powerhead for use with my UV sterilizer based upon previous reviews. It was a nice upgrade to my previous one which finally burned out. However, the instructions on it's assembly and uses is far from optimal. I am very mechanical-minded. As such, I did figure out what I need to put where. It runs very quiet and has just the right output for my UV sterilizer. I am using the AquaClear filter with it - and tho' the filter is bulky, it's a great addition to keep fine particles and baby snails out. Overall would purchase again and recommend to anyone. (by the way - one of the levers [yellow] was broken - but I'm using it in reverse anyway).

Yes, I recommend this product.

I have 2 big Plecos (cleaning fish) mine dirty a lot, so I have to clean the filter every two weeks or it will get clogged. I think if I would have cleaner fish like tropical fish then the filter would be fine with out getting clogged. I would buy it again and yes I would recommend it. It is a 5 star product, but I gave it 4 stars cause for me I have to clean the filter more often then usual.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I purchased this with the filter attachment to hook up a U V lite due to a green water problem. The only problem I had was the outflow hose stem adapter was too tight on the square end and split on one corner. So far it has stayed in place. The optional filter does a super job and will work well in a future breeding tank without sucking up fry.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I have used them for everything from an under gravel filter to a water polisher. They have given me decades worth of problem free usage.this is the only powerhead you will need. It was years of continuous use before I needed to replace the spindle. Best investment you can make for your tank.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I was a bit skeptical of the aquaclear brand, but so far I am very pleased with its performance. I am using it with an undergravel filter and it out preformed my previous powerhead. I have not tried it yet using the reverse flow function. considering another purchase.

Yes, I recommend this product.

What size of hose is used for the Hagen AquClear powerhead model 50 or old 402

  1. Thank you for your question. Easily fitted to most undergravel systems and comes equipped with a tapered riser stem adapter, which accepts 1/2" to 1-1/8" tubing, adjustable flow control on all models except 110, filtered air intake, and an epoxy-filled motor. Models 20 and 30 feature a deflection shield for angled flow control, and Models 50 and 70 offer both forward and reverse water flow.

Can the output be swiveled to either side?

  1. Thank you for your question. The outlet can be rotated approximately 270 degrees. The outlet catches on the housing on both sides. The filter will only fit the downward facing inlet.

Is this powerhead too strong for an undergravel filter ?

  1. I'm running mine at full capacity and the flow seems fine on my 75 gallon tank. It does have a flow control so you can adjust it as needed

Model 50 (old Model 402), CD-12010

  1. Thank you for your question. The power head should be sized to your aquarium. Aquarium water should be approximately 5 times an hour. For a 50 gallon aquarium this would be 250 gallons per hour.

Will 2 different size Aquaclear powerheads , 50, and 70 work together, or should I just continue with all 50"s?

  1. for a 120 gallon tank I would use the 70's. If they are too strong they have a flow control you can turn down to meet your needs.

will 2 hagen aqua clear model 70 be too much for a 90 gallon rectangle tank

  1. yes you will be happy with 2 of them for 75 or 90 gallon. you can adjust flow but i have 2 on 75 gal and it really moves the water on full so i thin k it would also be enough for 90 gallon also.

CO2 distribution?

  1. Yes , also depending what size aquarium you have.

Is the Hagen AquaClear Powerhead (70 Model) fully submersible underwater?

  1. yes, the entire unit is completely submersible

can the Hagan/Aquaclear pump act as a sump to return water to the tank

  1. For several years I have successfully used an old, (and still functioning quite nicely,) Aquaclear 30 power-head for doing exactly that. Returning water from a “bucket” to my tank while gravel cleaning. (Also while scraping algae off the tank walls.) As the Hagan Aquaclear power-heads have a venturi and are not rated for “foot of head.” The trick is both in the base (of the “Bucket”) elevation, and blocking off the venturi for this purpose. My early 1980's model 40L tank's top sits at an elevation of exactly four foot above the floor. (I have successfully been running this tank since the day I bought it new at the pet shop. Typically with Very Messy long-lived Goldfish and Otocinclus.) To use the Hagan Aquaclear 30 as a return pump: I have to elevate the bucket on a stool so that it's bottom is approximately 13 to 14 inches above the floor. The “bucket” I use is a modified 5 gallon hard walled plastic drinking water container (the kind used while camping,) with one side removed (cut out,) laying on its side. and a modified ¼ inch acrylic panel to hold a 50 micron filter sock. And a return hosing feed-through for a short length of hose which is coupled from the Hagan Aquaclear 30 power head. This makes the 'after gravel cleaning' part of the task easier. You do need to keep an eye on the level in the “Bucket” and take a short break once in a while to let the power head “catch up.” For the “Algae Scraping” in lieu of a Standard 'Gravel Scraper', I use an Algae Scraper I improvised myself, with the “scraper Head” made from ¼ inch acrylic, which is mounted on a handle which is a 12mm diameter by two foot length of 'Pyrex Glass' lab tubing, with fire polished ends. The Scraper head is mounted to this “handle” by the “melt through” method (And then Acrylic Solvent,) Specifically so that the “scraper tube handle” remains Uncapped. So that it can be coupled to the siphon hose. (Which is more typically that of a “Python clean and fill” in suction mode,) while scraping Algae and REMOVING it, (and its spores,) directly from the tank while scraping.

Can the quick filter be used in reverse flow mode?

  1. Yes, there is lever to change the water flow.
