Chemiclean was recommended by a "salt water fish expert." I used 3 orders of Chemiclean at increasing doses, up to 4 times the recommended dose. (I even used it at 4 X the dose after I thoroughly cleaned the tank of the red slime covering the sand. The sand was covered with red slime by the next day.) Every requirement listed was followed to the "t." Chemiclean was a complete failure.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Worked for me in less than 48 hours, remember though, buy a very good air stone pump prior to using. The chemical does rob your tank of oxygen.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I have used this product several times with great results. I just had an outbreak of red cyano and treated it several days ago and I did a water change yesterday. The water is now crystal clear and the slime is gone. I did have one of my urchins die but I think that was from something else because the other urchin is just fine. I put two bags of charcoal in the sump to soak up the Chemiclean and raised up the protein skimmer to cut down on the bubbles. It worked great, everything is back to normal and the aquarium is once again clean.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I have used this product twice. The first time was disastrous. i remember I only casually measured the powder level and outcome was dead corrals even though red algae was also eliminated. This product is very potent and do not overdose or lose patience. The second time I tried it after attempting several other unsuccessful methods and medication, I carefully measured out "flat" scoops of the given little spoon, and after 3 days nothing happened and I was very tempted to start a second dose, but thankfully, decided against it. And the 4th day all red algae disappeared with livestock remaining healthy. Good luck!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 10 of 11 Questions
Sort by: Newest Answers

Is this safe for freshwater snails

  1. Thank you for your question. The ChemiClean is safe for all invertebrates, including snails.

dosage amounts

  1. Thank you for your question. The dosage instructions are on the more information tab.

Do I have enough flow?

  1. Thank you for your question. The aquarium oxygen levels MUST be increased using heavy aeration or large air stones. The two powerheads will not offer enough aeration.

Is this OK with fresh water plants?

  1. Thank you for your question. Per the manufacturer this product is safe for the use of plants if used as directed.

Can you use chemiclean in a seahorse tank?

  1. Thank you for your question. Per the manufacturer, yes, Chemiclean is perfectly fine to use with Seahorses and all other fish and inverts. They emphasize to follow the directions exactly, especially adding extra aeration. They said, that this is a step many hobbyists tend to skip, but is very important.

What about lights ?

  1. mrpergo, Thank you for your question. You do not need to turn off your lights while using the ChemiClean, as your corals do need the light in order to survive. However, if you are having algae problems in your aquarium it may be caused by having your lights on to long in your aquarium. We only recommend keeping your lights on 8-10 hours a day and the longer that you have the lights on the more algae problems you can have in the future. Algae not only feeds from the exes nutrients in your aquarium it also feeds from the light.

more air

  1. Put in an airstone while treating.

Will Chemiclean get rid of my red algae problem??

  1. Yes this product worked but you must carefully measure the exact dosage and add a lot of water circulation or other oxygenation as instructed, or your livestock can perish. First time I used this product I add a little circulation and did not measure very carefully and outcome was almost all dead livestocks. Second time I had 5 power heads running in a 90 gallon tank and measured dosage very carefully, and after 4 days all red algae disappeared overnight.

I have a 8 month old 50 gallon tank full of red Coraline algae. Latelly long haired green algae has invaded parts of the aquarium rocks and windows.

  1. Chemiclean is for cyanobacteria, which itself is not an algae. This is not an algae, it is a bacteria. It will have no effect on algae. You would need an algaecide for that. Coraline is preferred by many reefers, but hair algae needs an algaecide.

Safe for Discus?

  1. Yes, but follow the direction exactly as written.
