Pro Cone flaws

2LabsLove

The concept is good, the material is fairly strong, dog tolerated it much better than plastic Elizabethan collar and inflatable collar. The plastic stays in the recovery collar that gives the collar its shape and prevented my 11 month old Lab from reaching his surgery site are not strong enough to resist breaking. In 6 days the stays broke in the original collar, collar was replaced by Petco and stays broke in second collar within 1 day which caused the cone to collapse and allowed the dog free access to chew on the surgery areas. I can see this item only being effective on a very small inactive dog. I would not recommend this item

Too heavy

Nice collar nicer that those plastic ones, but much too heavy for my Maltese. She couldn't lift her head. Maybe works better with bigger dog.

Won't Work for Most Dogs

I got this for my yellow lab. This product is only going to work for dogs with more or less flat noses -- pugs, Boston terriers, Rottweilers, etc. If your dog has a normal nose like a lab or a golden retriever or whatever, there's not enough cloth to keep the dog from reaching most of its body. If they added an inch or two it would be fine as the concept is good. But as it is, it's not worth the high price.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Cool Idea. Has Flaws.

This is literally a contraption. Extremely difficult to figure out how to put on. The Velcro around the neck area is so difficult to undue and get on your dog w/ease. I am returning this item to the store because it's too weird. too difficult to get on even for the most mannered of dogs.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Don't buy this collar

Like many reviewers, I was looking for a more comfortable solution for my 2yo Springer who had stiches on his right flank. The collar is flexible, and seemingly more comfortable than the classic plastic cone. My complaint is that it lasted less than 24 hours before coming apart. For the price I paid, I expected much more than that. The collar has flexible stays that hold it out from the pet's face and after one day of wear, the stays had worn through the fabric at the end of the cone. The resulting hole allowed the reflective trim and stitching to fray and come apart. Of course, once the end of the stay was exposed, my dog pulled it out and had a fun new toy! My dog is active and went through his doggie door many times I'm sure. This cone was flexible enough to allow that to happen which was one of the big reasons I bought it. However, I would not classify him as overactive nor a chewer. This collar just wore out under normal use in a matter of hours. Once the stay is removed, he could easily reach his stiches. if you have a very sedentary dog, or maybe an indoor cat, it might work for you, but for us we are back to the classic plastic cone.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Good product

Bought this for 20lb Boston Terrier. Semi Flexible smaller and more comfortable than traditional cones. After neutering ripped the plastic cone to shreds and vet had to duct tape (this was before I picked him up post surgery). Tolerates this collar well no fighting it (well not a lot). He is able to drink water and eat and NOT reach his wounds. Only negative is size is "smaller" than advertised (up to 12 inches) should say up to 10-11 inches. He could have used medium, but none in stock. Great product!

Yes, I recommend this product.

All Four Paws Comfy Cone

I thought this would be better then the cone my dog came home with from the vets. I went to the store to get the comfy cone and put in on my dog. He liked it but then got to the wound on his tail and started licking it. He had no trouble turning his head to the side. The collar needs to be stiffer. the collar colasped when he moved his head. I would not recommend this product.

Overwhelming chemical smell

Barlowsmom

This product smells like t-shirts that have been freshly pressed with an iron on, but 10X worse. I can't try it on my dog until I get rid of the chemical smell, for fear of setting off his seizures. I have washed it in non-toxic detergent, detergent + baking soda, detergent + white vinegar, dawn (which is finally starting to help). My next attempt will be a baking soda paste and heat. It will tick me off it he can still get to his foot after all of this, but I will say, it has held up to all these gentle cycle machine washes. Ten more ought to do it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Are these available in store?

  1. I bought mine in the retail store, so they were available in my area. However, I would not recommend this for your old girl. It's pretty heavy and actually would narrow any field of view that she may still have. I think all that would happen is that she would bump into more things because the collar will increase her head width. Good luck.
