I bought this home for my two rats as a temporary home to use until the new one came in and to use when cleaning out their other cage when it came in. The wire spacing is perfect and we have had no break outs (yet) and I hope it will stay that way. We took out the bowl that came with it and put in one of ours and now our rats use it as another access to the shelf. I don't recommend using it for two rats as a full time cage because it is a bit small.
The only real problem we had with this cage was that the ramp kept coming off of the shelf, but we fixed it.
Yes, I recommend this product.
