Pentosan is a sterile solution of pentosan polysulfate sodium. It is a veterinary medical device used to temporarily coat and replenish the glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layer in the urinary bladder. Pentosan injection may also be used for treating osteoarthritis in dogs, cats, and horses.
