Product did not work.

Did 3 applications with no results. Recalculated/remeasured w/ same volume and did 3 more applications. No difference. Had 2 other people run the numbers and again the original volume calculation was correct. I even increased the dosage by 20% over 2 additional applications but it was still ineffective. Ordered a different product and am awaiting it's arrival. My green water is still green.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I experimented with amount to add to pond and frequency of use. I have a 3000 gallon pond. I found that 12 ounces every 3 days does not affect the fish and it keeps the pond cleat. I have a waterfall and a filter/fountain for aeration. I recommend starting below recommended dosage and slowly add a little more and increase frequency of use all the while observing the fish. If you see the fish acting a little listless or coming to the top for air then decrease dosage next time.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Works as advertised

Our pond was struggling with algae - to the point where our filter baskets were clogging multiple times a day. After cleaning the pond, we used algaefix which seemed to work until we detected a pond leak and had to turn off the falls for several days until it was fixed. Our pond then became "peasoup." After the repair we used algaefix again and the pond cleared up after two applications. The water is completely clear and we can see all the way to the bottom. We will continue to use this product for maintenance, and I highly recommend for anyone with algae problems. The only thing we have noted is that the fish do not eat for about a day after we apply the dosage. However; they do regain their appetite. We have decided to feed them prior to applying in the future.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I've used this product for several years now and it keeps the string algae away successfully. Once a week treatment in our water feature works for us. Doctors F & S always have competitive pricing so it's just a quick reorder and we're good to go.

After using this product for several days, the algae is still in the water feature in my yard. It is very disappointing as it is advertised to kill algae within days, yet it didn't.

No, I do not recommend this product.

algae removal from pond

  1. Meekoda, Thank you for your question. The API Algaefix is not safe for animals drinking from your pond. We recommend the CrystalClear® AlgaeOff. https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=5163+5255+16592&pcatid=16592

Safe for bees

  1. Mojos Thank you for your question. The Algaefix is not harmful to bees, as long as you are following the correct dosage.

Will AlgaeFix kill beneficial bacteria that exists in the pond? If so, how many days do you wait to add bacteria?

  1. Thank you for your question. Algaefix will not significantly impact your beneficial bacteria when used as directed.

Will this prevent mold from developing in my water barrels?

  1. Thank you for your question. We cannot guarantee that this would prevent mold from developing in your water barrels.

When I pump/clean the filter the pond water is used to water plants/trees in the garden. If I use Algae Fix will it harm plants?

  1. Thank you for your question. This product is safe for use with pond plants and should not hurt garden plants either when used as directed.

Is anything else I should use for GREEN WATER.?

  1. Thank you for your question. We do suggest using a Submersible UV Clarifier to help eliminate the algae.

Will this kill duckweed?

  1. Irma, Thank you for your question. Controlling duckweed includes the physical removal of duckweed and watermeal plants. Wait for a windy day when the breeze can assist in controlling duckweed. When plants are pushed to the sides and edges of the pond, manually remove them with a long handled swimming pool net or other appropriate device that can reach the duckweed and scoop them out of the water. Manual removal alone is not enough to get rid of duckweed, but can help with reducing the amount. This practice must be repeated. Get rid of duckweed before it takes over the pond by increasing aeration at the bottom, manually removing plants from the surface and reducing nutrients that create bottom sediment.

If there are fresh water turtles in my pond, will it be fine to use Algae Fix?

  1. My pond only has tadpoles, not fish, heron took care of them last year. Tadpoles don't seem to mind it.

is this product also safe for snails? If not, what product is?

  1. moochie5306, Thank you for your question. We sincerely apologize, however, the PondCare Algae Fix is not safe for snails. To remove algae from your pond that contains snails we would recommend using the Crystal Clear Algae-Off. This is non-toxic to all animals as long as it is fully diluted in water before adding it to your pond. You would want to read the directions listed on the bottle to ensure that it is being added to your pond correctly. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=5163+5255+13747+16592&pcatid=16592

Can this product be used in a pond that horses and dogs have access to and drink from?

  1. It hasn't hurt my cats and they have been drinking out of this pond for several years.
