I got mine in the Zoo Med bearded dragon kit and it lasted 4 months I keep it on for 13 and a half hours every day which means it lasted not as long as it is supposed to.

I bought it on 09/07/2014 online and it took several days to arrive, now on 09/20/2014, it burned out, so.... I just throw away 8 dollars, which is not good.

We have been using these bulbs for a bearded dragon for about 2 years with the lights are on a timer. They are on 14 hours a day and we have been changing the bulbs every 90 days (range 84-92). Doing the math, they last 1260 hrs. This is considerably less than advertised. Looking for a new bulb.

I've been using the Zoo Med Basking lights since January and am quite pleased with them! My turtle loves basking under the warmth of the light. The only flaw I'd say is that the bulbs tend to go out within 3 months. I'm on my third bulb in 8 months.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I have a bearded dragon and I keep her basking light 10-12" away from her basking spot. The highest temperature this even reached was 90 on the hot side. This may keep her alive, but it in no way keeps her completely warm. She constantly had to be right on her basking spot and wouldn't do anything else. I've no idea how this is possibly the #1 bought reptile basking light!

No, I do not recommend this product.

The box says it should last up to 2,000 hours. Based on my 12-hour time cycle the bulb should last around 5 months. I've had a few burn out in less than 3 months. Other than burning out quickly these bulbs work efficiently for bearded dragons.

No, I do not recommend this product.

The 100 watt provides the proper amount of heat, and he enjoys it! I have no problems with it blowing out, and I would recommend for a good heat bulb!

Yes, I recommend this product.

what size basking light do i use in a 25gallon tank for a black corn snake?

How much does the 50 75 100 and 150 watt bulbs give off?

Would this bulb at 100w be good for my 2 Ball Pythons for heat? And what is a ceramic heat emitter or a mercury vapor bulb?

      1. 1. It depends on what type of enclosure you have, as well as size and other heat sources. I have a 40 gallon fish tank with a heat resistant mesh screen on the top. I use a heat mat on the bottom of the cage under one hide and a 75W bulb on the middle of the top. I also have a 60W night bulb so I can observe him while hes active at night, as well as let him be able to bask at his leisure. If your house is kept comfortably warm in the winter then you should not have to get special 'winter' bulbs, meaning a higher wattage to compensate for the cold air during the season. Also, make sure your lamp states that it is suitable for the type of Wattage you will be using. 2 . A ceramic heat emitter looks somewhat like a light bulb, however does not produce any light. It only gives off heat. 3. A mercury-vapor lamp is a gas discharge lamp that uses an electric arc through vaporized mercury to produce light. The arc discharge is generally confined to a small fused quartz arc tube mounted within a larger borosilicate glass bulb. The outer bulb may be clear or coated with a phosphor; in either case, the outer bulb provides thermal insulation, protection from the ultraviolet radiation the light produces, and a convenient mounting for the fused quartz arc tube. Mercury vapor lamps are more energy efficient than incandescent and most fluorescent lights, with luminous efficacies of 35 to 65 lumens/watt. Their other advantages are a long bulb lifetime in the range of 24,000 hours and a high intensity, clear white light output. For these reasons, they are used for large area overhead lighting, such as in factories, warehouses, and sports arenas as well as for streetlights. Clear mercury lamps produce white light with a bluish-green tint due to mercury's combination of spectral lines. This is not flattering to human skin color, so such lamps are typically not used in retail stores. "Color corrected" mercury bulbs overcome this problem with a phosphor on the inside of the outer bulb that emits white light. They offer better color rendition than the more efficient high or low-pressure sodium vapor lamps.

can light bulbs u use in the house be used for turtles

      1. While you can use a house light, I highly discourage it. House lights are made for giving lots of light, not heat, so they won't be that affecting for basking. Also, they don't give off any UVB at all, which is essential for turtles to fight against Metabolic Bone Disease! I'd recommend a Zoo Med Reptisun 10.0 or 5.0 for that.

When using the ZooMed Basking Spot Lamp, can you use it alone, or is it necessary to use with a UVB florescent bulb for more D3?

      1. This light is for heat only. When you have reptiles they always need a UVB light along with this. I would also suggest letting them in natural sunlight for a while during a hot, sunny day.

What kind of lamp does this fit into?

      1. These fit into any lamp but due to the heat it give off it should only be used with a ceramic lamp that is specifically made for heat bulbs.
