Questions
Blue Mountain Wilderness Duck used for 12 yr old german shepard with severe skin allergies. Now has hip and joint problems. Do we need Senior food?
- I would keep him on a high protein food, he needs more protein as he ages to keep up his muscle strength. Unfortunately GSD are prone to hip problems, have you tried Wellness Core? or hip and joint supplements? Senior food is low protein and that is not what you need right now. My 12 year old Lab/Shep Mix is on Wellness Core Dry and Wellness Lamb and Sweet Potato canned I also add boiled chicken, Jasmine rice, and 1/4 cup baked sweet potato to each meal. He does really well. I tried him on another food and he was sluggish and seemed weaker, put him back on Wellness and perked right back up. He walks two miles a day and he has perfect bloodwork. Give it a try. Good Luck!

how does the brand "blue" senior compair to "natural balance reduced caliorie formular?
- It Is similar in the reduced fat and calorie and increased fiber, but it does so much more for your senior dog. It, Blue, supports an older dogs immune system and joints and digestive health far more than a a low calorie formula.

we have a 10 year old lab and a 2 year old lab and they live on a ranch and so is the large breed senior one geared to control their weight?
- No, senior food is not for weight control, not on it's own. It's made to support an older dog's metabolism, which is slower, but it is also made to support their immune systems and to strengthen their joints. A large breed dog SHOULD be on senior food or senior supplements once they become seniors (7+). If you must feed both dogs the same food switch to a formula that is for "all life stages" like natural balance or another similar food. It will be ideal for both dogs and to support your senior dog you can start giving him/her a senior supplement so there is no need to buy multiple foods. Hope this helps!

- My experience with the big brand dog foods has been the same. I switched an adopted dog that was on Pedigree to Blue Buffalo Wilderness formula and the body odor she had disappeared within one week.
