I needed a pet gate for a wide opening on my deck outdoors. This gate is metal and solid. I purchased the wide extension also. The installation instructions were good and clear. I have used Cardinal gates before, and I have always been pleased with their quality.

I have a smaller dog, can this gate be lower to the ground then it is in the picture??
- Thanks for your question. Yes, you can lower the gate some. Just remember that the gate itself hangs lower than the hinge bracket. You don't want to move the hinge bracket so far down that the gate has no clearance to hang and swing open/closed as needed. It may be trial and error to determine exactly how far you can place the hinge bracket and still give the gate the space it needs at the bottom to function correctly.

SKU: 1455702 shows a max width of 42.5" . I need a width of 43.75. How can I adapt the gate for that width?
- To get the additonal width you need you'll need to mount a section of 2" x 4" to the stud you plan on using and the mount the gate to the stud. This will allow you to adjust your gate to the desired width.

I have a 72" opening on my deck outside that I want to put this gate on. How can this be done and what materials do I need ?
- Thanks for your question. YES, this can be done. You'll need the Outdoor Gate + 1 of each of the two different sized extensions. The gate is expandable width. Max width is 42.5. One extension is 10.5 inches and the other is 21.75 inches. Note: the extensions are fixed width so, doing the math, your span is 72 minus 32.25 (combined width of both extensions) = 39.75. That is the width you should set the gate. The entire span will open. There is a Tbar available to make the extensions stationary so only the gate opens, if you're interested in that. Can I secure the Cardinal Outdoor Gate to composite posts?
- Yes, you can! It will require drilling into the posts but it can be done. As long as the material is dense enough, it should hold. Standard wood screws should work. Great question! Thank you. Enjoy your Outdoor Gate!

I need to span a space that's 68 inches wide. Can I put 2 of these gates up and be able to connect them?
- Thanks for your question. Because of the way the latch mechanism works, it is not possible to connect 2 gates. You can, however, add width extensions to this gate. Each extension is fixed-width and each is sold separately. The gate width is adjustable from 27" to 42.5". There are 2 width extensions available: 10.5" (Search #1455729 on PETCO.com) and 21.75" (Search #1455753 on PETCO.com). So, if you set the gate width to 35.75" then add one 21.75" extension and one 10.5" extension, you will span 68 inches. NOTE: The entire span will open and close. Contact us for special accessories that can make the extension stationary so only the gate portion opens/closes. Enjoy your Outdoor Gate!
