Dwarf hamsters, including Djungarian, Chinese, Russian and Roborovski hamsters, have a high level of energy.
- - The name hamster comes from the German word "hamstern" which means "to hoard"
- - Hamsters have pouches inside their cheeks allowing them to put large amounts of food in them
- - Hamsters can squeeze their bodies through any opening as big as their head
- - Hamster teeth grow continuously throughout their life so they should be provided with chew sticks to prevent them from becoming over-grown
- - Play during the night and rest during the day (nocturnal), but can adjust to your schedule
- - Easy to handle but move quickly; some species, such as Chinese dwarfs and Robos, are less likely to nip or bite
- - House adult hamsters separately. Different types of small animals should not be housed together
