Nuts are in the shell so your bird has to work to get the scrumptious meats out. A great solution to boredom - he can work on these for a long time. Nuts make a great addition to your bird's diet. Combined with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and an appropriate commercial diet, nuts can round out a balanced diet. All of our nuts are unsalted. Hard-to-crack almonds are made for the bird that needs something to work at for his meal. Give an almond for a treat and watch your bird wait for more.

  • - Protein-packed almonds are also a natural source of healthy fiber
  • - Economically-priced fresh snack
  • - Great as a healthy foraging treat

Almonds as a diet additive and treat.

The almonds are always good quality, great price and the shells in great condition and available year round. My Goffins Cockatoo loves to chew through the shell to get to the almond inside. He gets 2 of these each night when "going to bed'. In fact don't think of forgetting them! He awaits at the door of his cage for them. I feel it is a great forging item since he has to "work for the nut." I also crack the shell to make it easier for my two conures who look forward to this nightly ritual. I love the fact that the almond is a great treat and adds to my birds' diet. The supply I get from Dr Fosters and Smith is clean and free from partially cracked shells.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Perfect healthy foraging treat

Appear fresh and in good condition. Almonds in the shell are hard to find for sale (and I live in an almond growing area). Because they are the perfect size and difficulty level for my BFA and CAG, I appreciate drsfostersmith.com as a reliable source.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I was not pleased with the nuts.

I was not pleased with the nuts. There were quite a few that were broken and empty. I don't like paying for things that are useless!!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Fresh and my Grey loves them!

I love these almonds for my African Grey because they are unsalted and affordable. Almonds aren't the most expensive nut, but they can be pricey. I can never find unsalted in my local stores either. These are not over priced and FS always seems to have sales going on! These come in a resealable thick plastic bag which keeps them fresh and tasty. Star goes nuts anytime I pull the bag out. I let her pick one when she's finished a few training commands or a job well done. If I am doing a few training steps with her then I will open the almond myself and break it into pieces for multiple rewards. These are not too hard to crack open for her and can be used mixed in with meals or as a treat. Just remember not to give too many nuts to your bird!

I feel the quality of the nuts was poor quality and would not feed to parrots.

a good year round price for almonds

This is a good year round price for almonds..Christmas might beat you out a little bit! Early on, some of the almonds were discoloring to a dark brown or black ish color which caused me some caution..but lately I have not seen this.

Are Almonds in the shell OK for a cockatoo?

  1. Yes! That is how they find them in nature. Cockatoos enjoy cracking, peeling, etc their food. It also helps keep their beaks healthy. They have to forage for their food in the wild, so I often hide the nuts in shredded paper, or other nontoxic material so they can hunt for them. These birds are extremely intelligent and like challenges.
