Pump feeble

Peridot

The included pump is very weak. i understand you want low flows but it repeatedly quits out right. Despite small filter sponge, probably debris in the pump. there is no way to clean out the pump. Going to try to rig it with another pump and throttle the pump back The light is still running but since you cant clean it, there is no way to know if the sleeve is coated with gunk. That fact is a result of a fully sealed unit, of course. Need to jump up to a unit that is better built and more maintainable My application is disease control in a freshwater planted tank.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I have a 75 gal tank, it HAD an awful algae bloom. This 9W sterilizer was actually a smaller watt than what is recommended for 75 gal. I bought it after some short research with the thought that if it didn't work, I would simply buy another to up my wattage. Not necessary, this 9W completely took care of a terrible algae bloom when nothing else did. I had crystal clear water in a weeks time. Amazing!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Had a major algal bloom in my 65 gall tank (first time ever). This UV unit cleared it completely in 6 days. Astonishingly clear water. It's well made, very easy to install, and works just like they say it will. Highly recommended. Now the water is crystal clear I intend switching the unit off and see how water conditions fare over time.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I was having trouble clearing up an algae bloom in my tank. Even after several partial water changes, the water would turn green in a day or two. After installing the AA Green Killing Machine, my tank cleared up day by day, and after 5 days was crystal clear. It has never looked this clear!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

For a 40 gal which would be best a 9w or a 24w?

  1. Thank you for your question. The manufacturer suggests using the 9W UV for Aquariums up to 50 gallons.

new pond/green pond

  1. You might try some water lily's to help block the sun, I'm sure you must have a lot of sunlight hitting your pond to produce that much algae. You could also try an algeaside to help knock down the algae too.

Can i use a 9watt bulb on the 24 watt unit?

  1. Thank you for your question. The 9 Watt bulb will not work in a 24 Watt unit.

UV sterilizer

  1. This product is UV rated. To meet their standards we must use only certified plastics. The UV will eventually break down the plastic resin over a great length of time. Other systems where only the “glass bulb” is replaced will eventually have UV leaks created by the UV destroying the plastic. The Green Killing Machine provides a NEW housing with every bulb, so the plastic will never experience the long time resin breakdown created by UV lighting.

How do I get a new powerhead

  1. If power head quits, buy a new unit.

Approximately how many hours does the 9V bulb last

  1. ChicagoBob, Thank you for your question. The bulbs for the Green Killing Machine are individually tested before shipping. Life expectancy with the bulbs running 24/7 is 3-6 months, although we have seen bulbs last well over a year. When not running 24/7 UV Bulb lasts for 6 to 9 months. To maximize UV bulb life, use the Green Killing Machine when you have green water problem, switch OFF when water becomes clean; or turn it on for 8 hours a day only.

Is there a magnetic mount available for this unit. It loses suction with suction cups provided.

  1. I had this problem at first, I lightly wet the suction cups and it has been up for several weeks without falling.

Is the powerhead quiet? How much vibration is there?

  1. Completely quiet, no vibration noted.

Is there a power switch or does it turn on as soon as power is applied? I would like to use it with a timer so it auto comes on for 8 hours a day.

  1. Unfortunately, the UV unit does not have a built in on/off switch. However, I see no problem using a plug in timer to set your run cycles. Just make sure to keep your water level at the same height as the output tube and the intake filter clean. A dirty filter or low water level will result in the power head losing its prime and the impeller will chatter.

180 Gallon Aquarium

  1. I think that a single 24w UV unit would be pushing it for your particular setup. I have a single 24w unit in my 150 gallon FOWLR tank and it works great! You could always try a single 24w unit and, if it is not enough, add a second unit later.
