I have been ordering this for over a year now to feed my catfish. It has always came in larger pellet size. This time I got the product, same amount, now the pieces are all very small. My fish (25inch redtail, 22 inch tiger, 16inch oscar, 15inch lima, 14inch channel) all just look at them. I will say Dr. Fosters did ship my other food in a timely manner while they waited to get this in stock, that I am grateful for!

No, I do not recommend this product.

All of my fish love this food. Severums, silver dollars, loaches, tiger fish and occasionally my africans get a taste.

This product is goobled up as soon as fed to my fish. It is especially good for bottom feeders. But even the mid dwelling fish will go for it. Very easy to store and use. Would recommend it. On the down side, it is pricey.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Cichlids love them

Originally bought these for my Pictus catfish however my cichlids do not even allow them to sink before gobbling them up like crazy. I basically use them as a treat every few days for everyone now. I think they may be too rich for everyday use for my cichlids.

Yes, I recommend this product.

We moved into a new condo with carpeting (first time for them) and three stories of stairs that my cats have decided is a huge scratching post and kitty gym. Yikes. I bought them a $50 scratching post. They don't touch it despite catnip sprays. I bought them one of those nice $30.00 carpeted things that lay on the floor. They don't touch it despite catnip spray. They even got a new kitty condo (which they do use). I got this product on a "what the heck" it's cheap and maybe it will work. Well, both of them absolutely love this thing and are tearing it to shreads. Both cats lay on it as well. Yes, it does shread and you get little cardboard shreddies on the floor all over. They could care less about the ball hanging inside. If it's on hardwood forget it it will slide all over (needs to be up against a wall even on carpet). BUT they both love it and I would rather deal with the shreads than a shreaded staircase and couch :). It's worth the money if your cats just won't scratch anything else they might like this one.

Yes, I recommend this product.

the scratching bored is nice and thick plus my kitten really likes the ball that hangs inside however the hole to get the ball is pretty small and the cat nip did nothing to help except make the dogs sneeze.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Fantastic food

My wide variety of freshwater fish love the sinking carnivore pellets. Almost every fish I have will attempt to devour them, whether they fit in their mouth or not. I have been successful in converting new arrivals that were only being fed live foods over to these pellets. I even convinced a wholesaler to try them on his wild caught polypterus, and he was amazed at the acceptance. These pellets are the main diet for my 18" polypterus, which have grown from 3". My ghost knives also thrive on these pellets, and they are adored by my red headed veija, green phantom pleco, frontosas, axolotols, anguilla anguilla eel, hi-fin banded chinese sharks and even as a treat for my goldfish. Strangely, the only fish which doesn't seem to get overly excited are my clown loaches, which are pictured on the packaging. The massivore delights by Hikari are supposed to be the same product in a larger size, by even my largest fish seem to prefer the regular size pellets. They just don't react the same to the massive pellets, leading me to believe something is a little different.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Well, I purchased it and my two 6 year olds at home and they only seem to enjoy the kitty toy hanging; which was not a carpet mouse like the description, but the 'crinkle toy'. I think they would have enjoyed the carpet mouse more. I stil recommend it to younger kittens. I am sure they would really enjoy it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

pictus catfish and other carnies

  1. Thank you for your question. Because catfish are omnivores and bichir are carnivores, they will eat this food. However, you may want to provide a vegetation-based food for the catfish as well, since they do eat both meat and vegetables. ajl

Could I feed this to my aquatic frog?

  1. Thank you for your question. The Hikari Sinking Carnivore pellets are fine for larger carnivorous aquarium fish so depending on the size of your frog these might be too big of a pellet. We would recommend the Tetra Fauna ReptoMin Frog Granules; item# 73546 as these are made for aquatic frogs. We have enclosed the following link to the product: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=22832

Salt or freshwater?

  1. I am not sure these tablets would be ideal for your goby. Here is what we suggest for feeding this type of fish: "A Diamond Back Goby feeds off the bottom as it sifts through the sand. Its diet should include a variety of live and frozen brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, live black worms, and prepared foods for carnivores. It should be fed frequently. " -- have you tried frozen foods?
