I've had two of the 100's for over 10 years now. They have functioned very well. The only thing I've had to do is replace the "o" rings because they broke and started leaking at the bottom of the J-tube.

I purchased this skimmer and the fins on the impeller didn't even last 2 months. By the time I realized exactly what happened it was 11 days too late for the store warranty (5 days if you count shipping). Instant Ocean won't respond back and now I'm stuck with a live tank and no skimmer. Way to go Instant Ocean/Drs Foster and Smith.

First off it does not skim anything. I have been adjusting for weeks and have had zero skim produced. The only thing it does produce is micro-bubbles. So many it terrifies my fish and anemones. I have super oxinigated my water and there are bubbles on the glass, rock, and equipment. It is very noisy and the pump looks terrible inside the tank. It also produces excess heat and has raised my water temp. Doesn't matter that it is cheap, it is total garbage.

Easy set up. Easy to clean. Quiet. Fun to watch. Price is right.

I just bought it. It worked great for a week. I cleaned it, put it back together, which isn't difficult, re-installed it, and it works intermittently and now its noisy. I read some other reviews, tried what people said, and now all it does is run water straight through. I tried the adjustments, which made it work a tiny bit, got up this morning, and its running straight water through. No bubbles. I only had so much money to work with, and now I'm stuck without one on my seahorse tank. I definitely wouldn't buy it if you want something reliable.

I have been using a SeaClone 100 protein skimmer for 9 years now. I originally purchased it for my 29 gal fish+invert tank, and am now using it on my 125 gallon reef tank. Although it is not rated for the 125, it has served my needs sufficiently by cleaning it out daily. It has done a wonderful job of doing exactly what it is supposed to do, and for very little money for those of us on a budget. A few notes: living with this skimmer is kind of like living with my Jeep (those with any car that has quirks but is still loved will understand...). The first thing anyone will notice is it is very loud. I can hear this running from my bedroom if I do not shut the door (appx 40-50 ft away). Second, it has to be adjusted every few weeks and it takes quite a bit of adjusting to keep it from spewing massive amounts of bubbles into the tank. While the bubbles are not harmful to any of the organisms in the tank and actually work to oxygenate the water, they are unsightly when I have visitors. Third, when I was using the skimmer on an appropriately sized tank (29 gal) I needed to clean the bowl AND the filter sponge weekly. (I am now cleaning both of these daily on the 125). The filter sponge is very important to keep clean or it will hamper the performance of this product. After 9 years, I would not hesitate to recommend this product to anyone looking for a skimmer that works well for under $100. I do plan to upgrade in the near future more out of want than need for a silent running skimmer better suited for my tank size, but expect to pay at least twice as much as this little workhorse.
