I think it's great that it can be used for feed or water. I'm currently using it to feed crumbles to 7 Bantams. I sit it into a plastic lid from a 5 gal. bucket and don't get the shavings in it like with the other smaller feeders. I also much prefer the size of this one. If I didn't use the plastic lid, I'd put it up on a piece of wood like I do the water jar.

I ordered two of these feeders, who ever came up with the idea of having them be reversable was brilliant! They are very nice looking as well, not just a boring plane white canister. They are a good size for more water and food. Really love them and would recommend.

We only use these as waterers only, using two for 7 chickens, changing water daily is easy. As for the person upset stuff gets in the water, put waterer on a cinder block or the like! Not only does it keep the water cleaner, the chickens do not have to bend over to get water only to have to raise their heads to swallow :)

I remember from childhood the mason jar over a saucer to water chickens. Same principle updated in a cute water I use for wild birds, squirrels, quail and chicks as well as indoors for the dogs. One of my dogs is afraid of bowls but not this waterer. It's a good product for all watering needs of various critters, not just chickens.

If you use this for water you can expect to have to clean it several times a day unless you're using sand as bedding. But even at that, they''ll soil in it like crazy.

I am disappointed in the size. Its so small if you use them for water or food. The food has a hard time getting out and you have to shake it. The water half spills when you reverse it after filling. I just don't see how this is anything but a seed feeder. For birds it might be great. For chickens, not so good, in my opinion.

Have only used it as a waterer works well easy to clean going to get another to try as a feeder
