I have used a marineland 360 canister filter on my 55 gal.saltwater tank for over 4 yrs. and it works great !! It is a little over sized for this tank but because of this I think that is why I only have to clean it once a month.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I purchased mine in 2014. I'm using it on a 55 gallon tank with about 20 fish. I have cleaned and replaced the carbon every year. The tank is crystal clear.

Air in filter unit

Goldies

When I first hooked up the filter, I noticed that it would have pockets of air going through the tubing. I contacted MarineLand helpline, and they said it being a new filter, will occasionally have that issue until it gets to working. They said give it a few weeks and the air in the unit issue should go away. We are on about three months now, and the filter continues to have the air in the tube and in the filter box itself. I have tried priming it several times. I have tried putting the lubricant on the gasket, as I had been told to do in the past. and it continues to have the issue.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Marineland filters are great

I've used Marineland filters for 25 years. I've had the bio-wheels and canisters. They are the best. . My favorite was the magnum 350. They no longer make it so I got the multistage 360 , cause it was similar. I have only had it for 2 months and so far I'm not happy, cause the aquarium water stays cloudy. I was going to order 2 so when I cleaned the aquarium I had one ready to replace the one I was cleaning. That would be quicker and better for the fish. I'm going to wait and give this one more time. I've always stood by Marineland.I have two clown loaches that are 24 years old, 3 silver dollars that are 23 years old and 2 kissing gourmets that are 22 years old. I credit Marineland filters for that. I'm sure I've done everything right. I thought maybe it's just really cleaning the aquarium so good that it's going to take more time. I wish they would come back with the magnum 350. I also liked it cause you could see inside the canister and tell how dirty the filter was. I do recommend Marineland just not sure about the Marineland multistage yet.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Difficulty opening the C530

  1. I had trouble with my 360 and started using silicone grease on the o-ring seal around the top half and didn't have anymore trouble.

Marineland C-530

  1. Thank you for your question. There is not an extension tube for this product. You may certainly make your own with a length of tubing and plastic clamps.

what is flow direction on Marineland C360 canister

  1. The smooth side goes up . The water flow moves from bottom to top.

It's very hard to open to perform maintenance I broke one of the release levers trying to open it does anyone know of an easier way?

  1. Try using silicone grease that foster & smith sells .Put it on the o-ring seal at the top . It is like a jell and works good on mine.Part # is cd-907904

Which filter size?

  1. Depends upon how heavily stocked your aquarium is. It might be pushing the filter's ability if you have it stocked to capacity. If you keep it very lightly stocked, you might be okay. And you can always add supplemental HOBs. But if it were me I'd rather have a filter sized to do the job alone, and only have to maintain 1 filter rather than multiple ones. Some folks like to have back up or supplemental filtration anyway. But if it were me I'd go with the next larger size.

Can this be mounted horizonally?

  1. No.

Cannot open/remove the motor/top of 530.

  1. They seal real good. Try pushing down on the top when you lift up the flaps.

C360 too big for a 20 gallon freshwater with tetra's?

  1. Way too strong. I bought it for a 40 gallon breeder for my big goldfish and I was worried that it might be too much current for that, but I wanted the extra filtration. Seems to be okay with the fish though. But I think you should go with the smaller sizes unless you keep large fish and use it in a 40 or larger. I think it would blow the fish all over a 20 gallon. :)

need a spray bar for a C220

  1. You can build one pvc 1/2" pipe go to ( youtube then search for how to build a spraybar ) Goodlucks

cannot seem to prime my marineland c360 filter. tried all normal solutions. it just won't prime

  1. I had this problem one time. In my case, it was a simple matter of having the charcoal bags too full, which prevented a good seal between the layers of material in the canister. I hope your problem was as easy to solve!
