Very helpful but at times tragic.

I have a Border Collie/Siberian Husky mix. She loves to pull no matter what. I got the choker at a young age and she pays a little better attention but still quite young so more training for her to understand it. Then my husband's 65lbs 6 month old pup mutt (Sheperd, Chow, Pit, Burnese mix) keeps growing so it's really hard to find a choker that will fit her. I trained dogs since I was a child. My mother was a very great trainer and I took my 6th sense in animals to much higher standards. Training both dogs, with very little help with my husband, it worked. My youngest one, so far, is doing very good. She'll just trot next to you without pulling but she's very young so she does have AD/HD. I'm thinking of getting the head halter since if they pull, their whipping their head around in the process. Perfect for much spirited dogs like my husky mix, who enjoys pulling my wrist out of my socket no matter what. If its for a car ride or a walk. So if this choker doesn't work for your dog. Don't get the pinch choker because its very painful for the dog and all your doing is getting them to fight with it more. Try the head halter, because the dog can't pull if the head is on an angle. Also, they will make a choking noise when they pull with this choker because it collapses their trachea to teach them that pulling will wear them out faster and give them a sore throat in the process.

This is the second choke chain collar that I have purchased from Petco for my Shepherd as she keeps growing. It works great. She is used to wearing it and she behaves very well on walks even in a crowd. I do all of my shopping for her at Petco. At the store and on line. The 3 stores that I have been in all the people are helpful and friendly. I would not shop for Cleo anywhere else. My friends also shop there. Would recommend their products to everyone.

I know that there are a LOT of people out there who have great success with this collar but I can only speak to my own experiences. I'm not an ignorant owner who buys a training collar and then gives it a bad review just because I don't know how to use it properly either - I actually had my trainer with 18 years of experience recommend this collar originally for my 4 month old Doberman Pinscher (he's 8 months old now). First the trainer tried to put the collar up high on the neck where it's supposed to be and my dog started making gagging sounds, whining, and freaking out. The trainer was shocked (and she probably felt a little silly) because she'd never seen a dog do that before so we moved it down on his neck where a normal collar goes and, at first, it worked fine. She showed me how you quickly change directions and the dog learns to pay attention to you and not to pull. At 4 and even 5 months old it was a charm. I could about face and my dog would turn on a time after minimal training with him. But then he started to get a LOT bigger and he's decided he would rather choke himself than walk along like a good boy. Either he's constantly pulling so hard that it makes him cough and I have to actually stop and hold him by his shoulders so that I can give him a minute to breathe, or he'll be walking along ok and suddenly lunge at a bird or a leaf blowing in the wind or ... anything basically, and before I can react he hits the end of that collar, it whips his whole body in a 180 degree turn and nearly yanks my arm out of it's socket. He's still only 65 lbs!!!! He's going to get a lot bigger! So I had no choice, I had to toss this collar out and I'm going to try the one with spikes. I just don't know what else to do. Even my trainer is at a loss because she's never seen a dog that is either so stubborn or just plain dumb - we can't tell which. So it might work for you, maybe your dog is smarter than mine. But mine just doesn't seem to get it - which isn't surprising because the vibration/shock collar didn't work on him either so I had to toss both of those out also.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Well made, heavy duty for large dogs. Good thing I measured old leather dog collar before buying this item....otherwise I would have ended up with a chain way too small.
