Durable and Quiet

I got the Pondmaster Pond-Mag Pump PM 9.5. I have used it regularly for several years, about 8 hours each day; it is still quiet and good. I did some research, and found very good rating on this brand. Someone said it needs an adapter to use. That's true! It does not come with any fittings. Mine came with a plastic pre-filter that resembles a wine barrel. The prices on these pumps have gone up a lot, but if you can afford it, it's a good investment.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I bought my first Pondmaster pump almost 20 years ago. Yes, 20. I ended up throwing it out yesterday. The wire inside the sealed casing broke. Until this happened the pump was still running strong on my filter boxes. It took all the abuse myself and my pair female Red Eared Sliding Turtles threw at it. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a long lasting heavy duty pump for their pond and fountains.

Great pump for 6' fountain

Great pump - I'm using it for a 6' fountain, and although I don't have it submerged, it never overheats even after hours of operation in the Phoenix heat. I recently bought another one of these for a second fountain to replace a more expensive unit that intermittently turned off due to overheating. Like the first one I installed, the second is working quite well.

Received it faster than expected. Works well as a replacement pump in our established pond. The rigid filter helps to keep debris out of pump when bottom silt and leaves gets stirred up.

Pump good. Prefilter terrible.

The PUMP itself is a good product and suits my needs. However, in this shipment I did not receive the prefilter that I received with previous pumps, or pictured in all literature and on line. The prefilter received is useless to my needs. Bummer.

Yes, I recommend this product.

We've been using Mag-Drive pumps in our ponds for years. They are rugged, have replaceable impellers and run 24/7/365. We typically get 3-4 years of service from the pumps. Recommend you get the shields for the intakes to keep them cleaner longer. Totally worth the investment.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

Is the flow rate on Pondmaster mag-drive pump adjustible?

  1. No. You can adjust the output rate by placing a diverting valve inline. These are adjustable valves(spouts) that send water in two directions. DFS can explain these to you if you're not familiar with them.

What voltage do Pondmaster Mag-Drive Pumps come in? Where I live it's 220v.

  1. They work off 120v AC. I don't think they can also work with 220v. There is no switch to change the voltage.

Is pump listed below best to use for my concern?

  1. Thank you for your question. The head height of this pump is 10' 6". As long as you are not pump water higher than that, this pump should work fine for your situation.

What pump should I use with a Fishmate PUV-6000 filter?

  1. Thank you for your question. A filter with a maximum gallons per hour rating (GPH) of 3,000 and with a 1.25-1.5" inlet/outlet will work for this filter. The Lifegard Aquatics PG 2700 Pump is one example of a pump that may be used. Here is a link to this pump and to the other pond pums we offer: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=5163+5164+28420&pcatid=28420 http://www.drsfostersmith.com/pond-supplies/pond-water-pump/ps/c/5163/5164

Does it hurt these pumps if the discharge volume is throttled down?

  1. I haven't used this particular pump but in general centrifugal pumps can be throttled and mag-drive adds another level of protection. If you think about the "max head " chart, lifting the outlet to a higher level is exactly the same as "throttling down", it simply applies back pressure to the impeller. In fact ( I hope this isn't too much info) the opposite is true, a centrifugal can sometimes burn out its motor by over pumping. ie. increasing the rated flow by either feeding with another pump or having a long downward discharge aided by gravity apply suction to the outlet..

Mage 9.5 or Mag 12

  1. rkoola1, Thank you for your question. The size pump you choose for your return line will depend on the gallon per hour rating that is recommended for your sump and overflow box. You would want to match the GPH of the pump to the flow rate of these items. This will ensure you do not overflow one or the other by having a pump that is too slow or too fast. mal

  1. Thank you for your question. The fitting sizes are as follows: PM 5 1/2" PM 7 1/2" PM 9.5 3/4" PM 12 3/4" PM 18 3/4" PM 24 1"/1" *Inlet fitting is FPT; outlet fitting is MPT The Rigid PreFilter fits the PM5 through PM18.
