Medium Cage Great For Special Needs Ferret

LoveAnimals4Ever

My ferret Snowflake is geriatric and overweight due to his medication which makes it hard for him to walk. This cage is spacious enough so he can scoot around when trying to find the right spot to sleep. And it's up the ground which is good during winter time when the floor is cold. A raised cage allows allows him to see the action much better than the previous arrangement I had with a corral in the corner of his room. The casters allow you to move the cage easily. Cleaning the cage is fast and simple since I line the wire mesh bottom with three layers of soft, thick bath mats and puppy pads on top to keep his bottom dry--he can't climb into the litter box anymore. It's like a crib such that I don't have to bend down to the floor to pick him up. With a newly adopted well mannered Schnauzer in the home I was concerned about her curiosity, but with the cage higher up, the ferret has his own protected space, especially since the cage has a wire top that snaps in three places for security, I have no worries when I leave the house. I would recommend this cage for its sturdiness, well thought design, value. This is a great cage for middle age to older ferrets since they're less likely to climb up the rungs and get out. Large enough for up 4 medium ferrets, maybe 2 larger ferrets (with floor play time daily, of course). Be sure to always allow some solid surface like a blanket, towel, or appropriate bedding so the animal is not on wire all the time. Follow assembly directions carefully to be sure you're connecting the sides and bottoms properly.

Great cage. Only one big negative.

Pros: Great size. Easily maneuverable. Perfect for indoors. Excellent tray depth to keep any droppings far away from rabbit fur. Perfect for Angora rabbits which require grid floors to keep their fiber clean. Cons: The rails that the tray and grid floor ride on rot and fall apart very quickly. The rails rust, deteriorate and crumble within a 1-3 years of indoor use. This happens regardless of the pet not urinating on the metal rails. (liter box trained.) Unfortunately, the entire cage must be replaced every 1-3 years, due to the deterioration of the metal rails, since without the, the cage falls apart. Very negative aspect of the construction.

Much bigger than I expected, but great for two guinea pigs. Directions to put together a little confusing, but once you do it wrong you take it apart and use common sense and it goes together fine.

Bought this cage because both my guinea pigs were getting too big for the cage they had. Was a little wary at the low price, but very suprised at the quality for the price! They LOVE it and so do I!

Needs a few modifications

I bought this cage for my 6 year old mini-lop after our finished basement flooded un-expectantly and her pen was destroyed. My bun was used to a 6 foot by 3 foot pen so I bought the biggest cage that was made. I read the reviews so was prepared for a few problems. The first problem mentioned that the instructions were unclear. Therefore, I read the instructions several times and took the time to lay all the parts out in order. This seemed to help in putting things together but I still didn't tighten things all the way because I did have to take it apart to switch something around. Keep the box until the cage is all put together so you can look at the picture. Second, I read that the under mount tray was flimsy (mine was cracked and I am waiting for a new one). I added thin bungee cords across from front to back to support the tray (which I am using for storage). My bun is litterbox trained. Finally, the review mentioned a noisy, unsteady mesh floor. Since I didn't want stuff falling into the tray anyway, I added a thin piece of wood, which I put laminate flooring on, to go on top of the metal mesh. Instant sturdy and quiet floor. With the two modifications the cage is great. I am happy she is off the floor and safe. The only problem now is her toys and litter can rollout of the cage because there is nothing along the bottom to prevent leakage. I can live with that.

Very large cage, in fact too large

I bought the large cage for our guinea pig so the kids could take turns with our pet in their rooms. It is a huge cage. If I had not already assembled it, I would return it for the small cage. It is just to big to have in their bedrooms, it barely fits through the door way. It was easy to assemble and it is sturdy but size wise it would hold a rabbit. Our little guinea pig would be lost in it.

This cage is easy to put together. You have a side door, a door on top and the whole top swings open for easy access. If you don't want your pets standing on the wire, you can put a big piece of cardboard or something to make a better floor. The cage rolls around easily. The only bad thing is the bottom pan falls off of the runners all of the time.

Does the jumbo come with the 2nd story shelf?

  1. Thank you for your inquiry. The Jumbo does not include a 2nd story shelf.

Is the ramp and platform removable? This is for a special needs rabbit - so I wont need those items.

  1. Thank you for your question. The ramp and platform can be removed.

What is the dimensions of the tray in the Medium cage?

  1. Thank you for your question, the dimensions of the pan have been provided below. BOTTOM OF PAN 36"L X 19 1/4"W TOP OF PAN 39"L X 22"W INTERIOR OF PAN 35 1/2" L X 18 1/2"W DEPTH 6 3/4"

What gauage is the wire bottom?

  1. The coated wire gauge is suitable for an average size rabbits feet. (It is not the super thin wire as with some gauges out there.) The square holes are large enough for the droppings to go through. However, I would recommend the use of an insert to cover a minimum of 1/2 of the cage flooring. This will make it more comfortable for your pet than walking on a fully gridded wire floor.

Would this cage work for a hamster? i have a hamster and thought it would be cute . . . ?

  1. Great cage for a hamster, Unless you feel that the hamster is small enough to escape between the cage sides.
