The Seresto collar is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. How safe is this when you have small children (3 and under)?
- Thank you for your question. The active ingredients in the Seresto Collar is encased within the collar. The Seresto Collar does not release its active ingredients until it is applied to your pet. Once on your pet, the active ingredient molecules migrate from the polymer matrix within the collar to form a microlayer on the collar surface. The active ingredients are then transferred from the collar to the lipid layer of your pet's skin and hair. Your pet's natural oils help the active ingredients diffuse and spread through the lipid layer, offering your pet full-body protection. You may initially notice a white powder residue on the surface of the collar. This is stearic acid, a substance graded for food use, which helps release the collar during the molding process. It is recommended to wash your hands after exposure because of this reason.

Will putting it in the container for long periods of time make it less effective?
- Thank you for your question. Keeping the Seresto Collar in the container for longer periods of time will not reduce the effectiveness. However, once the collar is on your pet, it should not be removed until you are ready for a new collar.

Can you guarantee an extended expriation date?
- I was told there WAS no expiration date! I called Foster & Smith as I wanted to take advantage of a sale but didn't want to buy the collar if it expired any time soon. I was assured there was no expiration date. I've looked on can & don't see one either. I see lot #'s but no specific "expiration date" printed anywhere. You may want to call Foster & smith, give them the lot #'s on can, and ask is there an expiration date...if there is one, I'll be quite upset as I have 2...and one of them won't go on Tater til end of next year. Better yet, call Soresto company itself. THEY can give you a definitive answer!! And now that you brought this up, I will as well!
