Use saltwater prepared with Tropic Marin Pro-Reef Salt for regular water changes in your saltwater aquarium. To start a new aquarium and to re-equilibrate the pH of a tank, add the required amount of Tropic Marin Pro-Reef Salt to water in a clean container while circulating and aerating. The resulting saltwater is ready for use as soon as the salt is completely dissolved. At a temperature of 73-77 degrees F., the specific gravity of the salt water should range from 1.022 to 1.025. A weekly, partial water change, replacing 10% of the total water volume with saltwater prepared with Tropic Marin Pro-Reef Salt, will help to maintain the water quality that your livestock needs for good health.

Great salt

The salt is great. Fish have survived for over ten years. Consistent dissolution. Trace elements means I don't have to add additives. Just to alert Tropic Marin users they have changed to bucket. The lid does not stay on as well and the bucket will get squished in delivery. Save your old buckets and lids. The new ones are not as well made. So buy it for the salt, the bonus bucket not so much.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good Salt for Zeovit

i needed a low alk salt for my Zeovit system that was of a high quality. I tried many other brands before settling on this. It is my go to salt though it is pricey. It is very consistent batch to batch.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I am using the basic Tropic Marin salt for my two 125 gallon reef systems. Corals are doing great and water is very clear. I use an Aquaclear filter in my mix bucket. Reef crystals works well but there is a lot of clay or anti-caking agent that I filter out before putting it in the display systems. Also, use of chelation agent EDTA in Reef Crystals is a consideration. Tropic Marine mixes very fast and it is extremely clean, which I like for my purposes. I dose calcium, magnesium and alkalinity to my reefs. I am finding that it works better for me not to get the enhanced salts, but just to supplement. The enhanced salts cost more and they tend to precipitate in my mixing bucket. I prefer to have salt water "age" a few days before use.

Yes, I recommend this product.

All salts in the industry are "mostly the same", Not so. I have used many brands and yes, I thought that too. Most reef salts provide a level of success that can be measured by your inhabitants appearance. The first noticeable difference I saw is that my white Brute drum stayed white after a full 48+ hours of mixing TM Pro Reef salt. About 2 weeks later, more subtle colors appeared on my corals. To be fair, I will update this review after a full six -eight months of using this Tropic Marin salt mix. Remember to mix you salt in its container before starting use.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Can the pro be used for Fish only tank ?

  1. Yes, most definitely. if you plan on FO, I would research a cheaper salt in the future. Reefs and corals, a very good choice!!!

which one is better regular or pro reef I'm thinking of switching from io reef crystals for coral growth. I don't have a calcium reactor

  1. Both of these salts have all of the essentials and is closest to actual seawater. I dose less because of it. Regular, FO tanks, Corals, Pro for sure.

Tropic Marin CLEARANCE???

  1. Thank you for your question. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-381-7179 or email Customerservice@DrsFosterSmith.com as more information is needed to better answer your question. tah

Is this salt ok to use alone with RO h20 or are additional buffers needed due to the low ph of RO?

  1. Just the salt.

what the differance?

  1. Pro is formulated specifically for reef tanks.

How to mix this salt with water

  1. Use a small scale and weigh the salt. Use 4.4oz/gal or 22oz/5 gal. I hang a power head on a 5 gal bucket of RO/DI water, add 22oz of salt, perfect 1.025 every time.
