I used to feed my cat Natural Balance orgininal formula. They changed the formula a few times and I guess the ingrediants are of less quality now. I try to feed my cat wet food several brands and she just doesn't like it. She will though eat cooked chicken that I cook for her to give her more moisture. So I feed her this dry food and human grade chicken. My cat at first wasn't feeling this formula, she ate it mixed and ate it hessitantly after I went all new formula. What I have noticed is that my cats coat is just nicer, softer more luxurious. She's still her picky werido self, but the coat is nice so I would reccomend this. Also I like that the bag has a resealable bag. I put my catfood in a tupperware but sitll thats nice.

Our five-year-old had been throwing up every two weeks (not fur balls; tried various foods) for her whole life, but the vet could find nothing wrong; she was also getting a bit sluggish and chunky. Our four-year-old developed a terrible skin allergy to fish (and it's hard to find food without even a trace). It’s been six weeks since we switched from Wellness Indoor to Wellness CORE Indoor and it has solved all of our problems! It is well worth the few extra dollars and we are thrilled.

My cat just turned one year old last month. He's been getting a little chubby, so I switched him from the regular Wellness Core to the indoor formula. It has less fat so I'm sure it doesn't taste as good. He always gets wet food twice a day, but he used to munch on the regular formula all the time. Now, he only takes a few bites of the indoor formula when he absolutely needs to. His stools are firmer (I think), and he does look slightly skinnier.

I have been feeding my cats this food for over a year now. One is about 8 and the other is about 7 years old. I was forced to find a new food when EVO dry foods were recalled in 2013 and have been pleasantly surprised with the results. Both of my cats were heavier and have since lost weight, seemed to gain energy and playfulness back, and have tremendous results with their fur and coats. I still feed wet food in the evenings (Science Diet Hairball formula) because one gets severe hairballs, but the new routine has really done wonders for their health and happiness.

When I first got my cat, she had such strong, foul stool odor I dreaded cleaning her litter box--so I did some research and read about Wellness pet food for cats and since using it now for over two years have found no longer does she have smelly feces, but she has a smooth, silky coat and too much energy for this lady!

My cat is almost 11 months old and has been eating Core since the day I brought him home. About a month ago, I noticed that he was getting a little chunky, so I called the vet and asked if I could switch him over to adult food and the vet said yes. After (exhaustive!) research, I discovered that the Core Original Formula is pretty much the same in calories, protein, fat and fiber as the Kitten Formula, and that the Indoor Formula is higher in protein and fiber and lower in fat. Everything you'd want for losing a little weight! So, I bought a bag and started mixing it in with the kitten food gradually and he loves it! I still had a lot of kitten food left, so right now he's getting about 1/3 kitten food and 2/3 Indoor Formula. That way, he's getting those necessary kitten ingredients for almost a full year, which makes me happy and he's nice and trim, which also makes me happy. I have to say, this is the first cat I've had that I've fed Core brand and I've never had a cat with such a beautiful, shiny coat and never a litterbox problem. My last cat was eating another VERY popular brand of high priced food that says "all the vets feed their cats our food" and was I shocked to see that the first ingredient was chicken by product meal! Ick! Now I've just got to try to convince my Mom to switch to Core because for my money, it's simply the best!

I purchased this for my 1 year old cat. She normally eats Hill's Science Diet(indoor formula), and I wanted to try something new. The ingredients seemed to be better and no fillers, so I was excited. Unfortunately my cat wasn't. I have tried repeatedly to get her to eat it and she won't touch it. I even mixed in her normal food and she picked around it and just ate the Science Diet peices. Frustrated to have spent so much on a bag of cat food that won't get eaten.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Amazing cat food

Simply amazing cat food. We got our cat just less than a year ago and I had wanted to move away from the more 'unnatural' foods for her. At first she wasn't a huge fan of the new dry food but she has gradually come around to love it! My husband and I have really seen a turn around in her coat and overall condition too - when we first got her she was being treated for Giardia having recently been taken in as a stray so she was a bit on the under-weight side but healthy overall. Now her coat shines, her eyes are clear and bright, and she is full of vitatlity - chasing us around the house is a favourite game now! We usually feed 2-3 spoonfuls of Wellness Core Indoor formula p/day in addition to a small (think mouse-sized) portion of Friskies tinned food - I know, all natural dry food with Friskies, but the she won't eat anything but the tinned Friskies... We have noticed that her litter box is a little more stinkey than it was when we first got her but it doesn't bother either of us and for the benefits that the higher-grade protein delivers we can live with it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

does this help with hairballs?

  1. This should definitely help with hairballs! The fiber content in the Core indoor formula is really high, with a range between 4% and 8%, which is more than double the original Core formula (max 3%). Since indoor cats generally have less access to things like grasses, which outdoor cats will forage and eat for fiber, this formula will help with that tremendously with your cat's overall digestion and, thus, the hairball problem. Though providing it some wheat or kitty grass to nibble on wouldn't hurt either.

why is magnesium % so high in the Core (14%) and not in the orignial indoor cat Wellness? (.098%). More than 9% is not good Vet said.

  1. It isn't 14.0%. It's 0.14%. Big difference...

Why is it advertised as having higher protein content than CORE original, when it in fact has 7% less?

  1. I think that might actually be a misstatement on Petco's part and not on Wellness'. Nowhere on the packaging of the Core Indoor formula does it claim to have more protein (i went and checked my bag just to make sure!). It does state it has 20% less fat than the original formula though, which makes sense given that indoor cats tend to have more sedentary lives and thus don't have the same high caloric and nutritional needs as outdoor cats. I think that and the fact that it's got a higher fiber content (almost double, i'm guessing since indoor cats have less access to grasses and other natural sources of fiber to help with digestion and hairballs), and it's fish-free (and definitely less smelly as a result) are really the main differences in the formulas. I don't think you can go wrong choosing either formula, really.
