This product is the best I have found to simulate natural light and promote healthy shell growth for my pond sliders.

This is the only bulb that I will use in my turtle tank. I have a 55 gallon tank with 3 red eared pond sliders, all 10+ years old. To promote healthy shell growth, a UVB bulb is recommended, and for turtles, the Repti-Sun 10.0 UVB is the best one I have found. This bulb always comes well packaged and over insulated to ensure no damage. I have been buying this bulb from DFS for over 5 years and I have NEVER gotten one that did not work right out of the packaging. I highly recommend this product.

best UVB bulb for reptiles

reptisun makes the best UVB bulbs for reptiles. lots of testing & research went into the product, & it's safe & effective. i get the 10.0 bcz i have desert reptiles (bearded dragons); i've had only one bulb in 10+ years that went bad & didn't produce the proper levels of UVB, but once i replaced it my lizard started improving immediately. i recommend getting a UV meter so that you can check the light output to ensure proper levels of UVB are being reached, regardless of what brand of bulb you use. these bulbs are becoming harder to find for some reason, but DrsFosterSmith has the best prices & they're always in stock :)

Yes, I recommend this product.

Excellent Zoo Med reputation. I tried other UVA/UVB and none of them were as durable as these. Studies I researched all list Zoo Med as the longest lasting bulb with the most constant UV output. Other brands I used seemed to radiate more heat than these as well.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Will the 48" bulb work with a standard overhanging fluorescent light fixture?

  1. as long as it's a T8 fixture of the proper length, it should work fine. only thing you might want to add would be a reflector, as standard overhead fixtures don't always come with them. and double check the wattage on the fixture to be sure it matches or exceeds the bulb, for safety.

What light fixure will this work with?

  1. I use this light bulb with a hooded fixture that goes from one length of my terrarium to another. There are a number of long hooded fixtures that will take the above 24" 10.0 light, ....the size of the bulb obviously depends on the size of the terrarium. This is a light primarily for desert animals/reptiles conforming to their needs for heat and UVB rays. Most hooded fixtures have outlets for other bulbs as well, i.e. heat/basking lights. That's why I prefer a long hood to the dome shaped lights...the light above is almost the length of the terrarium, which allows the animal to receive UVB throughout the enclosure and also offers heat and night light as well.

What light fixture pairs with this item?

  1. Thank you for your question. You can use the 24" Zoo Med ReptiSun T5 HO High Output Terrarium Hood with the 24" Zoo Med ReptiSun 10.0 UVB Bulb. We have placed a link below for this fixture. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=25698

is this light truly 32w?

  1. Thank you for your question. The manufacturer lists this bulb as a 32 Watt, T-8, 48."
