Apoquel and Apoquel Chewable may increase the chances of developing serious infections and may cause existing parasitic skin infestations or pre-existing cancers to get worse. Consider the risks and benefits of treatment in dogs with a history of recurrence of these conditions. New neoplastic conditions (benign and malignant) were observed in clinical studies and post-approval. Apoquel and Apoquel Chewable have not been tested in dogs receiving some medications including some commonly used to treat skin conditions such as corticosteroids and cyclosporines. Do not use in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs. Most common side effects are vomiting and diarrhea. My dog is currently on Apoquel 5.4 mg once per day. He is 25 lbs. Lately, that hasn't been lasting a full 24 hrs so his vet said that I could give him one 5.4 in the a.m. and then another 5.4 in the p.m. for two weeks and then back down to one pill again. The other choice was to give one 5.4 and a half of a 3.6 at once in the morning, which the vet advised not do that option since 5.4 and 1/2 of the 3.6 is a lot of Apoquel at once. But, isn't 5.4 twice per day a lot, too? I'm confused.

Our vet prescribed Apoquel 5.4mg for our dog, because he has been searching and licking. We found a few scabbed up sores on his underbelly which was why we took him to see them. My baby has bad allergies and she is prescribed apoquel dosage is 3.6mg tablet and we are only suppose to give her half. So i was wondering if we can ask our vet to up the dosage because it seems like the 3.6mg isnt working as well anymore? Thank you.

My little terrier mixed breed has been on Apoquel for some time. It is gradually not working for her anymore. Chewing her skin on her abdomen, legs and paws. Has developed a wart on the inside of her ear (near the top). This morning I discovered that she had bloody, runny stools during the night. I have been giving her pureed chicken to calm her gut down, and no Appoquel. She is eating okay, but is lethargic.

Hi lily has an eye ulcer so her prednicare has to be stopped whilst it heals to stop her itching my vet has given me a few days of apoquel to tide her over as apoquel only works on her briefly then just doesn't The vet instructions on the box says 1 a day but I thought when they first start it its a loading dose of 2 a day Even though she will only be on it a few days will 1 a day still be adequate ?

Can my dog take prednisone and apoquel at the same time?

He has horrible grass allergies, to the point that his paws and chest bleed every summer, even with using a mild oatmeal shampoo to wash off paws when he comes in the house. Keeping him IN the house. Using a hot spot and itch relief and Benedryl. Apoquel works great for him, but I can not afford 2.00 per pill for him. Any other suggestions? My 5 yr old Scottie has been on allergy shots & 5.4 Apoquel since 3-4 mos old. We are trying to get him off Apoquel since he has done well. I have been giving 1/2 tablet / day for approx 2 mos and his skin is very dry, flaky now which causes him to scratch. Mostly belly area but under arms is a little scaly although Hydrocortisone cream & Aloe based gel has helped. Anything I can use to help with the dry, flaky skin? Oatmeal shampoo doesn't seem to help. Been using Zymox shampoo/conditioner.

Constant allergies and ear infections. Apoquel works well but told not a good idea to take long term. Any safer alternatives out there? Any OTC shampoos I can try? Does not tolerate fish/oil... does best on LID duck and potato food.

Apoquel vs. Cyclosporine: Treating Pet Allergies

Our 2-year-old Shar-pei is taking a course of Apoquel along with her Bravecto. While Bravecto seems to work very well, as advertised, the Apoquel does not seem to work. Our Coco is still scratching, some licking, and shedding balls of hair. She eats Purina One. Would she be as well off taking over the counter allergy medicines like Benadryl, Claritin, etc.? Dove takes apoquel for itching when it gets bad. I figured its 1/2 pill every 24 hrs. It doesnt seem to be helping as the pill wears off becuase we give both dogs half a pill for dinner every night. So is it safe to give her benadryl to help with the itching as well?

Dewi was prescribed Apoquel for allergies. I did some reserch online and it says the allergies can become worse if you stop using it. If I start him on this medication and decide I want to discontinue it after the first month, is it safe to do so? I also read it was not approved by the FDA for use longer than 14 days and that scares me. Is that accurate?
