Whether you’re a seasoned goldfish pet parent, or new to fishkeeping, Petco has the companion for you. Every goldfish is different in size, coloring and personality. So while we can’t guarantee what your goldfish will be like, you can trust that goldfish are relatively easy to care for. They require a small sprinkle of food a few times a day, and a tank cleaning every 2-4 weeks, or as needed. Goldfish make an ideal first pet, and can live for years if given the right tank environment and care.

Make sure you dedicate a bit of time to set up your tank before your new fish friend arrives. You can start by getting an appropriately sized goldfish tank established. Surprisingly, it’s recommended pet parents provide their goldfish with a large aquarium - a minimum of 20 gallons. Small fish bowls don’t typically provide the appropriate amount of space or water conditions a goldfish needs for regular behavior. Now on to your tank’s accessories. Installing proper heating and lighting in the goldfish tank will ensure your fish has an environment similar to their natural habitat. Don’t forget the plants and other decorations to add a bit of character to the aquarium and to give your fish a few places to explore. Finally, you’ll want to purchase goldfish food, and plan on multiple feedings per day.
