Male Watanabei Angelfish (Genicanthus watanabei)

Angelfish come in a large array of colors, patterns and sizes that make them very appealing to all levels of hobbyists. The Watanabei Angel is one of the few angels that display sexual dimorphism. They are also one of the few angels that prefer to be housed in a pair rather than singly. They generally feed on a wide variety of algae, sponges, soft corals and other benthic organisms, which is why they are not recommended for reef aquariums. The Watanabei Angel can grow to be about 6" in size, so ample swimming space is necessary, especially if housing two. Full grown adults of this angel will need around 100 gallons; however, you can get away with smaller aquariums when they are juveniles. Females have a light blue coloration with black outlining their fins. Males are also light blue and they have a unique black striping pattern towards the lower half of their body.

ACCLIMATION: Avoid exposing new aquatic life to bright lights after opening the box. Turn off aquarium lights prior to floating aquatic life. Allow the sealed bag with your new fish to float in your aquarium for at least 15 minutes (but no longer than one hour) to ensure the water in the bag matches the temperature in your aquarium. A bacteria booster addition can assist with the addition of new aquatic life. Petco offers free water testing in store to determine if your water is safe for the addition of new aquatic life. DIET: A well-balanced diet consists of a variety of flakes, pellets, freeze-dried and frozen foods, depending on the species. FEEDING: Feed sparingly and no more than fish can eat in 1-2 minutes. Overfeeding can quickly foul the water, especially in smaller aquariums.
